In this episode, Ashley shows you how to make a traditional log cabin block, giving tips along the way on how to lay out pieces, accurately sew them together, and nest seams when assembling the blocks. Once the quilt top is done, she hands it off to Penny who shares two different ways to quilt this design- custom quilting and all-over quilting.
This episode takes a standard log can block and elevates it with both color and design! Once you get instruction on how to assemble the units, blocks, and put it all together- Penny will show you how to finish it off with quilting. She’ll also share tips for thread color selection when a quilt top has contrasting colors like black and white.
It’s back to basics with this Timeless Traditional quilt. Ashley will show you how to make simple units like half and quarter square triangles, then show you how to put them together into three traditional blocks. Once finished, Penny shows how to add a touch of modern to the design with fun quilting styles and motifs.
Aztec Lines is one of those quilts that looks more complicated than it really is! If you like half square triangles, you’ll love how this one comes together. Ashley will also show you how to make a square-in-a-square unit, and give you tips for working with skinny strips. Then, Penny will show you how a single quilting motif can be worked over an entire quilt top and not take away from the design.
It’s time to play with bright colors and prints in this episode. Ashley shares tips on how to select various fabric colors and prints that all come together into one cohesive design, then shows you how to assemble the tulip blocks. Penny shows how to accentuate the tulip flower and add fun details to the background, while giving tips for quilting directional quilts.
In this season finale, Ashley shows you how subtle, secondary designs can be created when blocks come together. Then, Penny will show you how simple quilting, like straight lines on a diagonal, can really accentuate a design.
