DIY Warping Board

What are you most proud of? I'm not an experienced woodworker, but I managed to design and build this in a day without help - although I got my husband to neaten up the cut-out corners with his chisel because I can't saw straight! What advice would you give someone starting this project? Due to inexperienced woodworking, the corner cut-outs weren't identical, so it fits together better in one particular way. The corners are colour-coded with permanent marker to help me assemble it quickly. I didn't seal the wood - you may want to apply wood wax or varnish. I wouldn't recommend stain or wool oil, in case it comes off on your yarn.

You Can Make This

A.A. made DIY Warping Board with:

  • 4 x 1mx5cmx2cm wood (I used cheap pine); 4 x 12cmx1.2cm dowel; 28 x 10cmx1.2cm dowel (total dowel length about 340cm); wood glue; saw; chisel; woodwork-competent husband to do the chiselling; electric drill
  • 1.2cm drill bit (or whatever matches your dowel); sand paper

Q&A with A.A.

Kai-Lyn asked:
Brilliant! Love that you can break it down. Great idea on marking your corners for joining. Going to make one right now!
A.A. answered:
Hi! Did you get to make one? I'd love to see how it turned out!
thyme72651 asked:
Do you have the plans for this Warping board. I would love to make this also. thanks
A.A. answered:
Hi, a pdf is now available with sketches and assembly instructions if you are still interested. Happy weaving!
parisrome3091818 asked:
I can't find the project on craftsy app, only on the website. ???
A.A. answered:
You would have to direct that question to Craftsy Help, I have no control over how the app and website work. I don't currently have the app installed, but I am finding that Projects are getting harder to find, Craftsy seem to be putting more emphasis on classes and products that make profit, rather than celebrating the achievements of crafters. I am saddened by the change, too.
zakmangre19585843 asked:
Seems like a nice weekend project :) Where can we find the pattern PDF?
A.A. answered:
On the Carftsy website, use the Search box to look for "Warping", click on the Warping Board pattern, there should be a "Buy" button on the top right of the page. The PDF is not a full-size-print&pin pattern like you would get for a dress, but a brief description with a few hand-drawn diagrams, which should enable you to create a similar warping board from whatever wood planks and dowel is available at your local hardware store. Just ask if there's anything unclear in the instructions!
dibruce9933123 asked:
Is this still a ailable please? A search on bluprint comes up with nothing!
A.A. answered:
I was assured it would still be available after the move to bluprint from craftsy, it is still visible to me, I am concerned that you are having trouble finding it, but not sure what I can do about it. I will protest to support, I would suggest you do also, hopefully they will fix it soon, sorry for the difficulty. UPDATE: Bluprint deleted it! I have sent an angry email about it, I do not know if they can or will reinstate the pattern, I suggest you bombard them with angry messages until they do! UPDATE 2: The response is not at all helpful: The pattern marketplace is unavailable until whenever they finish their redesign, no predictions on when that might be. If you already bought it, it should be in your pattern library still, contact support if you can't find it. I will look into finding another pattern hosting service and probably re-write the pattern to look more tidy before uploading it again, so for now, I've sorry to say, it is not available. Many apologies for the disappointment.
