1950's Style Wedding Dress

I used Butterick retro pattern B5748 and modified the bodice to v-neck and added cap sleeves. Alison's sewing with lace and couture techniques classes were invaluable. Photo 4 shows where the lace is joined on the skirt, which becomes invisible once wearing the dress. The bodice is lined and interlined with boning added for support. The lining is completely hand stitched in. There are 4 layers of fabric in the skirts including the top lace layer, with synthetic horse hair braid added to the bottom of the fashion fabric layer for extra 'pouf'. I also made an authentic 50's petticoat to wear underneath to help hold out the skirts which is trimmed in lemon satin to match the colour of the fashion fabric in the dress.
