It is fast, it is easy and it is pretty! The One Hour Book bag was designed specifically for use in the distributions of workbooks and Bibles by missionaries at women's' conferences in Eastern European countries. On the local level I head up a group of women who produce some of the bags used for this purpose. Our group meets once a month for 3 hours each month and work at home when necessary to meet a deadline. The women work best working in a step by step assembly line production. Each woman works on one specific task rather than each completing a bag. This pattern is the newest pattern being used in our group. The One Hour Book Bag may be a functional book bag designed to be deep and wide enough to hold several books but you may want to carry it just because it is pretty. A bag with squared off bottom corners to make it sit flat, handles threaded through large grommets and held securely with a knot creates not only an attractive bag but a sturdy carry all book bag. The bag lining and underside of the handle pictured here is a repurposed cotton/polyester blend canvas drop cloth (purchased from the painting section of a building materials store) which adds stability without the expense. I keep the largest canvas drop cloth I can get in my sewing supplies and use it on all sorts of creative projects. Assembly of this bag utilizes some time saving techniques making it so easy you just might have time to make several in an evening. I rise early in the morning and go down late in the evening. My desire between waking and sleeping is to make things pretty or make pretty things! I have been in secondary education for twenty years teaching high school art, helping young adults recognize their creative nature or trying to help them develop one. I thought I had given up sewing when my little ones grew too big to applique their clothes and make cutesy clothes for them. I rediscovered that love of creative sewing one summer two or three summers back when I wandered into a quilt shop with my sister (the queen bee of quilting) and saw a little clutch purse pattern that looked too simple not to make. I was hooked! The rest of the summer I was designing purses and have been doing so every since.
