Be prepared to meet your new best friends! Designer Diane Spencer Ogg guides you step by step to create a classic tote bag and stash-busting clutch in your choice of fabrics — from wool tweed to canvas to stabilized cotton. Along the way, you’ll learn tips and techniques for working with plaids, making zipper pockets and more.
Meet Diane and begin by exploring the Harris Tote's features. Discover the best fabrics, interfacings, and stabilizers to use for the bag and lining. After you cut out all the pattern pieces, watch as Diane demonstrates her fusing technique.
Start sewing your tote by making zipper tabs and installing the zipper pocket in the lining. Also, add facings in the outer bag fabric for a professional look. Then join the lining front and back, and box the corners for shape and stability.
Finish the outer section of your tote by attaching leather handles with rivets. To complete your tote, Diane shows how to elegantly join the lining and outer layer. Give the bag a final press and you're all set.
