Q&A with Beatrice Long

LindaJ B asked:
Your quilt is wonderful Beatrice! Perfect quilting to go with the quilt design. I find myself using this quilting quite a bit...love the texture it gives.
Beatrice Long answered:
I truly enjoyed quilting it and am so happy with the results. I will use this design again for certain.
Jacquie Gering asked:
lovely!
Beatrice Long answered:
I thoroughly enjoyed your class and learned so much. I also gained the confidence and techniques to tackle it. Thanks.
kleedy asked:
Beautiful job. I love all of Jacque's classes. Since taking her class I've finished more projects on my own. Did you strip piece your triangles? They look lovely and I love the colors.
Beatrice Long answered:
I made string squares with the coloured scraps and then combined them with white to make 1/2 square triangles. It uses lots of scrap pieces and was fun to make.
SueHof asked:
Love the quilt. Perfect quilting choice. Did you do anything to stabilize the quilt before you did the circular design (like stitch in the ditch)?
Beatrice Long answered:
No I didn't do anything other than following Jacqui's suggestion to starch both the top and the back. I also pinned probably every 4 inches. I tried spray glue on a sample but didn't find it stable enough. The secret is definitely going slow.
q-tee quillter asked:
is there a pattern and what are the dimensions? I have a quit a few baby to do?
Beatrice Long answered:
I made 8" string squares using freezer paper. I then placed a white 8" square right sides together and drew a diagonal line corner to corner. Sewed 1/4" on either side of the line and then cut on the line making two 1/2 square triangles. Play with the placement till you are satisfied. Mine is 56x40.
