Rainbow Road

Loved the easy design from this episode of the Midnight Quilt Show. It was the PERFECT project for the Boundless Blenders Botanical fabric that I fell in love with and can't get enough of either! 5 charm packs was the perfect amount to build this quilt.

Q&A with Lady Blackman

Bwithmecreations asked:
My name is Brian And you were very specific on the fabric you used and how you made it I am assuming you made each row starting from Color light red and going down to purple I am a quilter also I was wondering if I wanted to make my quilt very similar to yours with the rainbow themed could I. I am asking your permission before moving further Let me know if I can make my quilts similar or the same to your rainbow charm pack quilt Thanks
Lady Blackman answered:
Hi! Yes of course you can make your quilt similar to mine! I don’t mind at all and am happy you like my project. I don’t even mind if you want to make it the same. I built it to try out free motion quilting in the squares. Thank you for checking!
Bwithmecreations asked:
Hello it’s Brian again and with making your rainbow charm squares quilt can you give me a little detail on how you made out and what was your process on how do you made the rainbow charm square quilts also can you explain a little and how you placed the colors from the retreads to the rich purples and making it have a Rainbow effect Let me know
Lady Blackman answered:
I sure will! I used my EQ8 system to layout the colors. My main goals were to make it go corner-to-corner diagonally and from hot to cool on the color shades and to not have the same color next to each other or similar shade. I ordered 2 charm packs (5x5) to make sure I had enough variation for the rainbow portion. I organized them by color before I laid them out (blues of the same shade from each pack for example). I counted the amount of each color to make sure it would work with my design and I swapped a couple after I saw them in person. I sewed square to square to make the row and then row by row and worked my way from top to bottom. I then added the borders in the gray as I wanted it slightly larger. The borders are cut at 3.75". I picked one of the fabrics I liked most from the face of the quilt and used that as the binding and backing. **Added my EQ8 diagram to the photos.
Bwithmecreations asked:
When making your rainbow charm square quilt What did you use for the binding and backing fabric do you have pictures provided I could see let me know as soon as possible
Lady Blackman answered:
I picked a color from the charm pack. I chose the Boundless Blenders Botanical in Starflower for the binding and backing
Bwithmecreations asked:
Can you send me any pictures of the binding and backing you used for your rainbow charm square quilt and fabrick did you use for the binding and backing
Lady Blackman answered:
I added the photo of the fabric I used for the backing and binding. You can pick anything you want though. I just picked one of the colors I like from the quilt top.
