Q&A with Celia Riggs

Veronica Mary asked:
Hi Celia , You've done a lovely job so far ! I'm just about to cut fabric out for the second block ( Marquis diamond) & see that the block is supposed to end up measuring 12 1/2". Looking at the size of the paper templates & doing a little calculating , it looks to me like the block could not really end up that big. Am I missing something somewhere , do you think ? Thank you , Kind regards , Veronica ( Ireland)
Celia Riggs answered:
The marquis diamond templates had a revision, and it was adjusted as the first set of templates for that block were off. I accidently used the original templates and had to make the blocks a second time. Not to worry, there was enough fabric to do just that. I added 1/4 inch to each side of the triagles as I cut the second set and then when I squared the block to 12 1/2 it trimmed off the excess. I hope this helps!
NooAcct9484523 asked:
What a great job, Celia! The quilting is over the top! Did you do that as well as piecing? If you have tips on getting through the February block, can you share? Thx in advance!
Celia Riggs answered:
Thank you! I sent this quilt to a LAQ (long arm quilter) because I wanted to see it done like Nancy did for the one she shows in the class. Februarys block sure was challenging. I had to remake them as the templates were off. I added 1/4 inch to all sides of the triangles and then just squared it up to 12 1/2 once finished. I hope this helps.
