The pattern is called "Hanging Gardens". I incorporated the sashes into each block. The borders were made in long strips, ironing them onto pre-glued batting, which kept every block in place. I quilted the long strips before adding them to the body of the quilt. The final edging is made from prairie points - thanks to the "finishing touches" Craftsy course. This is my third quilt - and as such required a great deal of "brain power" to convert the pattern into a QAYG. Thank goodness I chose a patterned sashing and backing fabric it was very forgiving... hiding a multitude of stitches. Thank you Marti for a wonderful, informative course. This quilt was made for my daughter's 21st birthday and each block depicts a story of her life. There are blocks showing her animals, her heritage, trips to Europe and Africa, sailing, modelling, her degree in chemistry and geology - and ultimately enveloped in New Zealand fabrics, her home country.
