Living where I do - in the middle of rural France - there aren't many opportunities for me to gather together with other quilters, so the online quilting groups to which I belong are very important to me, giving me a sense of community within the craft I wouldn't otherwise have. From time to time, other members have a few issues with the maths involved in putting blocks together, and on these occasions I am happy to help and can usually mock up a quick cutting diagram from my design software which makes life easier for them. The birth of this design came from one such incident - and when my friend posted the picture of her completed block on Facebook it received so many likes and so many requests for the pattern that it made sense to put one together. This is not identical to the one my friend was making, as I would NEVER step on the toes of my fellow designers; besides, I think my friend's quilt should be as unique as she is! I picked a Moda Christmas range which was current at the time of designing, but it would be equally suitable for using up some of your seasonal stash - as did my friend - you just need a bold red floral, a smaller and more geometrical red design and a green blender to mix with your plain black and reds. Or you could just let your imagination run riot and PLAY!! My friend used a very very dark green rather than the black, for example, but the design would also look good in a variety of other colourways, I think. The possibilities are endless!
