Finishing the Portrait

Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this piece. This portrait was drawn in graphite, based on a photograph I took of the model. My goal was to capture her contemplative and relaxed expression and let the edges of the head and upper body dissolve into looser marks. What are you most proud of? It took me awhile to capture the corners of the mouth in the relaxed, almost smiling position. At last, I am happy with the way it turned out. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Working tight while using loose marks challenges two sides of one's brain. Be expressive and work energetically throughout the piece, and also be persistent and take the time to re-work a problem area until you get it right.
