I used Paton's Classic Wool Worsted for this hat in red and purple. I used a standard hat pattern: cast on 88 stitches knit for 8" then begin decreases to shape the crown. You could use any simple hat pattern knit on circular needles to develop a felted hat. Instead of size 7 needles, I jumped to size 10.5 needles so I had a loose knit that would felt well in my washing machine. After fulling and shaping and letting the hat dry completely I embellished it with rayon floss, shell beads, glass beads and shell charms. The hat is simple to make and felting is easy in the washing machine. The embroidery and embellishment take a bit of time and skill though. The hat pattern included is almost identical to the pattern I used for this hat and should work quite well.
