Washed Ashore :: Simple faux cable ribbing and lace come together for a double layer hat full of texture and warmth. Inspired by the sea after a storm, the muted grays and blues together with the lace stitch pattern create a modern, but timeless look. Two hats in one!! Perfect for gift knitting!! Knit just the Inner Layer for a simple, modern hat, OR add the lace Outer Layer for a fun hat that will keep you super warm all winter long! Worsted weight yarn is used to knit the simple, elegant Inner Layer, then using fingering weight yarn, stitches are picked up along the top of the brim to add the lace Outer Layer. Feel free to substitute lace weight yarn for a thinner hat! Skill Level: Intermediate beginner. Techniques used: knit, purl, knitting in the round, simple increases and decreases, picking up stitches, simple lace work, bobbles Sizing and Dimensions: Adult small {Adult large}; 19” / 48cm circ. x 8.5” / 21.5cm height {21” / 53cm circ. x 9” / 23cm height}. Inner layer ONLY modeled in Large size, Outer and Inner layers together modeled in Small size, both on 22” head. Yarn: Main Color (MC; Inner Layer): 120 {150} yds / 110 {137} m Worsted weight Contrast Color (CC; Outer Layer): 150 {200} yds / 133 {183} m Fingering weight Shown in: MC: 1 {2} skeins Quince and Co. Owl in Elf (50% Wool, 50% Camelid - Alpaca; 120 yds per 50g) CC: 1 {1} skein Quince and Co. Tern in Beach Glass (75% Wool, 25% Silk; 221 yds per 50g) Needles: Large: 16” & 40” long US 6 / 4mm circular needles for Magic Loop method, or DPN’s. Small: 16” & 40” long US 3 / 3.25mm circular needles for Magic Loop method, or DPN’s. OR size needed to obtain gauge. Gauge: 20 sts x 30 rows = 4” / 10cm in stockinette stitch knit in the round, using Large needles and MC yarn.
