I don't know about you, but as soon as I feel that autumnal chill in the air, I feel the need to spend a ridiculous amount of time watching classic horror movies. Give me ghosts and vampires and werewolves and monsters; add some popcorn and a Halloween-inspired knitting project, and I'm content for ages. And that's why I created this project: a quick and easy-to-knit cowl that uses cables to create that skeleton spine-and-ribs look. Put your favorite horror movie on, cozy up on the couch, and get out your knitting! Make this cowl for Halloween, or, for an easy change-up, wear it with the cables facing the other direction for a very cozy winter cowl that works all season long! I used one skein of Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick in Grey Marble and a 10 mm 24" circular needle to make this cowl. You may also want to have a cable holder nearby to help with the cables. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY knit in the round knit cables GAUGE 9 sts x 14 rows in stockinette SUGGESTED YARN 97 meters of Bulky weight PREFERRED BRAND/YARN Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick COLORWAY Grey Marble

As a freelance copy editor and transcriptionist (and a student again as well!), I happily work for myself from home, which generally allows me to knit and craft and create when the mood strikes. For me, knitting and crocheting has evolved from a hobby to an all-consuming passion (some would say obsession). Inspiration for my designs is drawn from all over the place, including past travels -- from Turkey to Kyrgyzstan and many places in between.
