This simple, everyday triangle in three sizes (doll, petite, tall) is distinguished by the fluid drama of its wavy hem, worked in a random mix of natural colors, determined by the knitter. The hem lace is a variation of the feather and fan motif, seen in traditional Scottish hap shawls. This design is a tribute to those timeless beauties, now worked in a modern one-piece construction. Because the hap was a workaday garment, this version is named for the Shetland sheepdog, which also sports a coat of dramatic shading in brown, gray, and white. Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in size and drape. I am the owner of Knitspot - knitting patterns, clubs, and artisan yarns. I am a life-long knitter with a background in the fashion and graphic design fields, and began designing clothing, knitwear and accessories during the 1970s. I teach and write about knitting, spinning, and designing at my blog, Knitspot. I live and work in Ohio with David, who loves wool, too. My design work/profile has been included in Knitty, The Knitter, Interweave Knits, and Twist Collective, Sock Club, Brave New Knits, as well as several upcoming publications. The complete catalog of Knitspot patterns is available for browsing and purchasing at Knitspot yarn clubs are reknowned for perfect pairings of luxury yarn and design, as well as the rollicking good fun in our Ravelry clubhouse where members meet, chat, and knit through club projects together. Our Bare Naked yarns are as close to the farm as a knitter can get, using fresh fiber produce from regional growers which is then spun into yarn at smaller artisan mills with which I have worked over the years. The collection is focused on single-breed pure wool yarns and exotic blends, with colors that range an entire array of natural tones—yarn the way nature made it.
