Desolation Sound is aptly named; winters out there would have been desolate and lonely. European loggers and fishermen who settled this remote coast brought pieces of their homeland with them and carved gardens from the forests to plant apples and roses. These foreign seeds were coaxed to flower and fruit among the moss, ferns and native berries of the rain coast. Many of the remote homesteads have been abandoned and reclaimed by the wild, but in a forgotten garden you may still find a hardy rose entwined around an arbutus tree, or sprawling untended in a sunny glade. NOTE: this pattern includes charted lace instructions only. The chart is not written out.
