I designed this pattern after finding out that my sister's twins were born early at week 27. I wanted to do something special for them and the other preemies at the hospital. My nephew and niece are both developing well and hopefully will come home soon. Please feel free to use this pattern to donate to your local NICU, for your personal use or as a gift. Make sure to check with the hospital regarding yarn and other requirements. Choose machine washable yarns since the hospital need to wash them and want to keep them germ free. Share your pictures with me on Ravelry and/or on Facebook. My Facebook page is called Knitting for Sanity ( At the end of this pattern you will find directions how to dye the hats with KoolAid. Enjoy and share the love. Notes: hat is knit in the round. Choose your preferred method DPN's or magic loop gauge is not critical and yarn weight can be substituted by choosing a larger or smaller hat size. I highly recommend to use this as a practice to do cable knitting without a cable needle. It is so much easier and faster. Knitting for Sanity
I grew up in Germany and learned knitting when I was about ten years old. I knitted for my dolls for a while. I took a long break and found my way to knitting many years later when I moved to the United States. I had to learn knitting again because my vocabulary did not include knitting terms. I started back up when knitting for my husband and when my 2 precious girls were born. I have improved my knitting skills immense over years by trying every year a new skill or technique. My designs are practical and simple in design. I believe in less is more. I don’t like sewing so I try to design with minimal sewing and finishing work. Enjoy your knits and join my Facebook page Knitting for Sanity.
