As a knitting teacher, I often have students who want to learn how to knit socks. I wanted to write a pattern for a newbie sock knitter that covered all the basics and gave some variety to the weight of yarns he or she might want to use. This pattern uses the Magic Loop technique for its construction of a basic, top-down sock. You can choose from fingering weight, sport weight or worsted weight yarn for your project. Video tutorials are available for the German Twisted Cast-On, the Kitchener Stitch and the Magic Loop technique.
