Pattern Details

Motifs lifted from the Art Deco period are combined to create a lively texture across this asymmetric shawl in two sizes (petite/tall), meant to be worked in a shimmery yarn blend. While the visual effect is complex, the patterns are simple to work, relying on the tension of cable crosses to pull the ribbing back and forth; light and dark areas are the result of shifting fabric density. This design is worked in one piece from beginning to end and is easily resized. Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in size, drape, and yardage requirement. Suggested Yarns: Bare Naked Wools Deco Fingering, Better Breakfast Fingering, Chebris Lace, Ginny Sport, or Hempshaugh Fingering, Briar Rose Fibers Sea Pearl, Miss Babs Tarte, Blue Moon Fiber Arts Seduction, The Unique Sheep Tinsel Toes, Yarn Pirate Merino/Tencel Sock, Shibui Knits Staccato, or any fingering yarn blend with a soft hand that knits to pattern gauge Finished Size: 56(70) inches across top edge and 32(42) inches along bind off edge Yarn Requirements: 450(900) yards Gauge: 22 sts and 31 rows = 4 inches in stockinette on smaller needle (unwashed, unblocked) Needles: size 6US (4.0 mm) for shawl body (or size to obtain correct gauge) size 7US (4.5 mm) for hem (or .5 mm larger than gauge needle)

I am the owner of Knitspot - knitting patterns, clubs, and artisan yarns. I am a life-long knitter with a background in the fashion and graphic design fields, and began designing clothing, knitwear and accessories during the 1970s. I teach and write about knitting, spinning, and designing at my blog, Knitspot. I live and work in Ohio with David, who loves wool, too. My design work/profile has been included in Knitty, The Knitter, Interweave Knits, and Twist Collective, Sock Club, Brave New Knits, as well as several upcoming publications. The complete catalog of Knitspot patterns is available for browsing and purchasing at http://www.knitspot.com/knitting_pattern/index.php Knitspot yarn clubs are reknowned for perfect pairings of luxury yarn and design, as well as the rollicking good fun in our Ravelry clubhouse where members meet, chat, and knit through club projects together. http://www.knitspot.com/clubs/index.html Our Bare Naked yarns are as close to the farm as a knitter can get, using fresh fiber produce from regional growers which is then spun into yarn at smaller artisan mills with which I have worked over the years. The collection is focused on single-breed pure wool yarns and exotic blends, with colors that range an entire array of natural tones—yarn the way nature made it. http://knitspot.com/knitting_pattern/yarn-c-21.html
