Pattern Details

This pattern was the first thing I ever designed in double-knitting, and is still my most popular pattern. I attribute its success to its simple elegance and whimsy. The original pattern was designed for my sister, who was at the time an amateur ornithologist with a particular interest in corvids -- crows, ravens, etc. It has been redesigned a couple of times since then and was included in my 2011 book "Extreme Double-Knittng" as an introductory pattern. This is a great pattern for anyone who's new to double-knitting. The chart is simple to follow, with few color changes per row, and when you are finished you will have an excellent foundation on which to build new double-knitting knowledge -- as well as a warm and stylish scarf for yourself or a loved one. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY knit and purl. Some colorwork experience is useful but not critical GAUGE 20 sts/27 rows = 4" in standard double-stockinette. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS As charted, 6.5" wide by 70" long SUGGESTED YARN 860 yards of DK weight PREFERRED BRAND/YARN Berroco Ultra Alpaca COLORWAY #6214, #6245

Recommended with this pattern

I got started knitting about a decade ago, and through dedicated focus (or sheer lunacy) I have built myself into a world authority on double-knitting, a technique which can be used to make knitted fabric with no wrong side. I wrote a book entitled "Extreme Double-Knitting" back in 2011 and in 2016 I released a new book called "Double or Nothing". I'm on Craftsy as an instructor but I'm sure even I can still learn some things here.
