Pattern Details

Childhood Wishes is a classic cable blanket knitting pattern for worsted weight yarn. Pattern includes instructions for four blanket sizes. DIRECTIONS FOR FOUR SIZES: Approximate sizes after blocking… Small (4 cables): 29.25” wide x 32.5” long Medium (5 cables): 35” wide x 36” long Large (6 cables): 40.75” wide x 46.5” long XL (7 cables): 46.5” wide x 53.5” long Finished size may vary depending on yarn weight and gauge used. Any of the blanket sizes may be made longer by adding cable pattern repeats. Each cable repeat adds about 3.5” to the length of the blanket. Pattern includes estimates for additional yardage needed to make blankets longer. WORSTED or ARAN WEIGHT YARN: Small: 620 - 650 yards Medium: 820 - 850 yards Large: 1250 - 1300 yards XL: 1650 - 1750 yards Be sure to buy additional yarn if you plan to add length to your blanket. The pattern may be used with worsted or Aran weight yarn…or similar. Select the needle size that gives the best appearance for your yarn. Finished size and amount of yarn needed may vary depending on yarn choice and gauge….so buy extra yarn just in case! GAUGE: Stockinette stitch with US size 9 needles after blocking: approximately 14 stitches & 22 rows = 4” Exact gauge is not essential. I used US size 9 knitting needles…but choose the needle size that gives the best appearance with your yarn and your knitting tension. Significantly different gauge may require more yarn. CIRCULAR NEEDLES: Knit flat, in one piece, back and forth on circular knitting needles. In order to accommodate the large number of stitches, long circular needles are recommended. SKILLS REQUIRED: Cable knitting experience highly recommended. You will also need to know how to cast on stitches, knit and purl confidently, read a row by row knitting pattern, bind off stitches and weave in ends. Blocking of finished blanket is highly recommended. This pattern uses standard U.S. knitting terms. Written pattern with row by row instructions. Read more about this pattern on my blog:

I have been knitting since I was about 8 years old. My mother taught me to knit and my parents encouraged me to explore all kinds of arts & crafts activities by providing me with the materials that I needed to create. As a girl, I loved to sew (I spent hours using my mother’s sewing machine making clothes for my dolls), knit, draw and paint. In high school I spent all my extra time at school hanging out in the art room. In college I worked at a cute little yarn shop. Many years later...I started designing and publishing knitting patterns in November 2013...I love it! I love giving hand knit gifts to my friends and family. I love to see the smile on their faces when they open the gift I made for them. I hope that you enjoy using my knitting patterns to create special projects for your home, friends & family.
