Project

Totally remodeled!

What are you most proud of? My cutting the sweatshirt to size worked, along Cindy's techniques, turned an unusable piece of clothing into one that will be worn frequently. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Follow Cindy's instructions and find a sweatshirt that fits for your first project. It will make the class easier. But I had to try and see if I could cut my sweatshirt to size. And if you do cut your sleeve width down to fit, make sure to allow more width if you intend to embroider around your wrists. You will stabilize it, and therefore lose the stretch of the knit fabric and may have a hard time slipping your hand through.

Custom Sweatshirt Jackets: Sewing & Embroidery Techniques

with Cindy Losekamp

  • My sweatshirt jacket started with a HUGE pink sweatshirt. I fit this for my mom
  • who recently lost quite a bit of weight. It gave me the freedom to cut it totally apart and fit it correctly. I cut the sleeves off and cut the shoulder width down
  • and took in the sides. Along with following the instructions from Cindy to cut off the ribbings. My only caution to myself in repeating this would be to allow more width at the sleeve hem. When you embroider and stabilize your sleeve

Q&A with :) Lyn

sissyrb3393956 asked:
I think this is beautiful. I would be proud to wear this to any occasion. Great job! Did you embroider the sleeves before you sewed them together or after you set them?
:) Lyn answered:
It's much easier to embroider the sleeves before everything is sewn together, and that's what I did.
shirleyscreativ asked:
How far from the edge of the lower sweatshirt did you place the design? Please let me know as I can't find any info on sweatshirt jacket placement for a regular embroidery design. The class on craftsy was mainly for applique on the very edge. shirleyscreativedesigns2005@yahoo.com Thanks, Shirley Rash
:) Lyn answered:
I think if I remember correctly, I matched the distances from the bottom hem of the jacket's to the embroidery design and matched that same distance from the sleeve's hem edge to the bottom of the embroidery design on the sleeve. Hope that helps you.
