Project

Sea Turtle March

What are you most proud of? After the first couple of turtles I gave up trying to envision the final product and just concentrated on making fun individual turtles with the hope it would all look OK in the end, which I think it did. I really enjoyed using all the new embroidery stitches I learned in the class - most of which I had even seen before, let alone done. And I had never used beads before so that was a lot of fun. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Just have fun using lots of different trims and embellishments.

Q&A with Sea Cat

See Patti Go asked:
I am so in love with this turtle piece ! I am on a turtle kick right now and doing a turtle project with Stitch and Slash (Craftsy). I have a friend battling cancer who loves turtles. I must make a turtle one from what I learned in this class also.
Sea Cat answered:
Thanks. I'm a bit turtle-obsessed myself!
Noeline Boet asked:
Where did you get the turtle template from? Also, did you cut out the legs, head and tail out separately?
Sea Cat answered:
I made my own template. The body was one piece and then I added one or two other layers for the shells.
Sue Spargo asked:
What fun!
Sea Cat answered:
Hi Sue. I wanted to tell you that thanks to your instruction, Sea Turtle March got first place and the Superintendent's Special Award in hand needlework at the NC State Fair today. Lots of incentive to do another piece now! Thanks again.
howlingwi5521106 asked:
Can I use your idea?
Sea Cat answered:
OK by me. I'm sure yours will end up looking very different anyway.
itssewnice asked:
Cool...how did you come up with this idea?
Sea Cat answered:
The overall idea was baby sea turtles hatching and heading across the sand toward the moonlight over the ocean. While I liked the butterfly class pattern, the room this was intended for has a beachy feel, and I thought a turtle shell had more space for embroidery than fish or something else.
