Pet Portraits in Colour Pencil

I really enjoyed doing this project, it was a bit tricky in places but Gemma's tuition was really helpful. I learnt a lot from her, especially under-layering black etc to get a deeper, richer colour. This class was my first attempt at serious colour pencil drawing and i have to say, I love this medium!! I hope you like my work xx

Q&A with Alison Powell

missraffaele asked:
Hi Alison! love your work! This portrait is incredible. I am looking to take this class in the future and you have inspired me! You mentioned you used Polychromos colour pencils, I was wondering which set you own? Like the tin of 36 or 60, etc? I am looking to buy my first set for another class and looking for some advice from a fellow pencil student about where to start! Thanks, Danielle :)
Alison Powell answered:
Hi! I did this project with a box of 72 but quickly bought the complete set of 120. I have now also purchased the complete set of Caran D'ache Luminance pencils, but they are very expensive and the Polychromos are still my favourite! Happy Drawing! xx
missraffaele asked:
Thanks so much for responding, you have really helped me figure this out. So glad to hear you love them - they look incredible in this drawing. I'm going to start with the set of 60 and grow my range as I become more serious/ better. The Luminance range looks incredible, something to look forward to one day :) Cheers xx
Alison Powell answered:
No problem! Take care xx
