I love to write patterns that support students who are learning to crochet, and this one is no exception. Dress up your next barbecue or picnic with classic and casual placemats and coasters that are simple enough for anyone to make. In this pattern, pieces are worked flat, from the bottom up, in a single-crochet-and-chain pattern that produces a "warp" background through which chain "weft" is later woven. If you like this pattern, be sure to check out my Craftsy class on textured crochet stitches, with lifetime access and a 100% money-back guarantee: Pattern originally appeared in the June 2015 issue of I Like Crochet.
