I love the look of fairisle, but it's a little bit tricky to work in crochet. I was experimenting with different ways to achieve the look and developed this stitch pattern of miniature hearts. Stitch one up for your favorite little one to try out the technique. Small amounts of stray colors in your will work perfectly for the heart rows. Please select a size that is 2-3" larger than your child's chest measurement for a standard (loose) fit. Yarn used is Rowan's Amy Butler Belle Organic DK (50 cotton/50 wool). You may substitute any yarn that is the same weight category-- a sport or dk weight, to make the sweater. See pics of kids wearing the cardigan here: http://www.lindamade.com/wordpress/2012/04/new-pdf-hearts-cardigan/ BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Basic stitches (ch, sc, hdc, dc), familiarity with working a garment GAUGE 16 sts worked over 12 rows in pattern stitch (alternating rows of sc and dc) measures 4" wide by 3.75" tall. 11 sts worked over 9 rows in heart color work measures 2.75" x 2.25".
