This is a tote that I designed as a gift for my daughter when she graduated from high school. She used it all the time while away at college. I used a size H hook because I wanted the stitches to be tight, although if you crochet tightly, you may wish to go up a hook size or two. I have tried this pattern using a variety of yarn types, but I think that any wool in a self-striping pattern will bring the desired effect. You may find that the finished dimensions will vary depending on how long you felt your bag, brand of wool used for the project, and tension. Noro Kureyon felted to 14 1/2" wide X 14" high. Soy Wool Stripes (SWS) felted to 14 1/2" wide X 14" high. Ella Rae Classic (I used size I hook) felted to 13" wide X 11" high. Paton's Classic Wool felted to 11" wide X 13" high (but I felted it a bit longer than the others). This bag would would make an excellent gift for someone who is in need of a large tote. It has plenty of room for books and necessities for any college student. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS gauge is not essential to the finish piece SUGGESTED YARN 660 yards of Worsted weight PREFERRED BRAND/YARN Patons SWS COLORWAY any self-striping wool

Recommended with this pattern

When my mom tried to teach herself how to crochet using a guide for beginners I was fascinated. I begged her to teach me all that she learned, so at the age of seven I picked up my first crochet hook. Since then I have enjoyed the craft immensely. You can find me working away at a new project almost as soon as I have completed the old one. I have dabbled a little in designing my own patterns and feel such a sense of pride when I see the projects of others that have been made using one of my pattern designs.
