Step 1:

Roll white fondant out thick with the rolling pin and wooden dowels as guides. Cut out a circle with the 1 1/4″ round cutter.

Step 2:

Roll the white circle fondant into a ball with your hands, then begin to roll it into an oval, sausage shape.

Step 3:

Dip your fingers in a bit of vegetable shortening and begin molding the white fondant into the unicorn’s head, narrowing it more at the top and indenting the left center a bit to give it some shape.

Step 4:

With the modeling tool, make indentations for the eyes, as well as the horn in the center of the forehead. Make smaller, light indentations towards the snout for the nose.

Step 5:

With round decorating tip #12, make an indentation for the mouth and press down just a bit to open up the mouth.

Step 8:

Roll white fondant out with the rolling pin and 1/8″ guide rings. Cut out two circles with round decorating tip #3 and roll both of them into separate little balls. Flatten them out just a bit to add to the eyes.

Step 11:

Combine both tan circles by rolling them into one ball.

Step 12:

Mold the ball into a cone with your fingers to begin shaping the unicorn’s horn.

Step 13:

Step 15:

Roll white fondant out with the rolling pin and 1/8″ guide rings. Cut out two circles with round decorating tip #12.

Step 16:

Roll one of the white fondant circle into a ball, then mold it into a teardrop shape.

Step 17:

Utilize the modeling tool to make an indentation in the teardrop to form the unicorn’s ear. Flatten the very bottom and round it out a bit to fit over the top of the head. Repeat these steps with the remaining white circle for the second ear. Set the ears aside.

Step 18:

Roll out all the desired rainbow colors with the rolling pin and cut out a variety of circles with the round decorating tips. Roll each one into a ball, then roll them out a bit on your work surface to create hair for the unicorn’s mane in different sizes. Thin out the ends into a point. Take one of the fondant hair shapes and glue it to the top of the unicorn’s head, lying against the work surface. This will provide a support for the ears.

Step 19:

Glue the horn in the center cavity of the unicorn’s head, then glue the ears in place. Strategically glue the various colors of fondant hair on the top of the unicorn’s head and cascading down its left side.

Step 21:

With the small modeling stick, make little indentations around the perimeter of the scalloped fondant circle to add to the design.

Step 22:

Dip the toothpick in a bit of the white soft gel paste and make little glimmer dots on the unicorn’s eyes.

Step 23:

Glue the unicorn’s head and mane to the scalloped fondant. Allow to dry thoroughly.
