It does help people to have clear headings so those who can only knit or crochet can quickly find what they are looking for. There is a lot of material, if you will pardon the pun, on your great website.

Will you be having a “gift” button as an option?
Was looking for the “Top 20 Best Selling Patterns”, but can’t find it anymore. Was this feature eliminated?

Reply
Craftsy

Hi Ellie,
The gift feature is not available right now, but we plan to bring it back in the future. Unfortunately we did remove the Top 20 patterns pages, but you can always find popular patterns at the top of the patterns pages for your craft category. Have fun exploring!

Not happy with this “surprise” , and I am a big Craftsy fan- as my account proves. Not the smoothest of transitions, and I had less difficulty than many! My biggest complaints? The removal of archived classes, with still no way to organize my classes; and coupon codes!?! Not liking that at all!

Reply
Craftsy

Hi Maria,
We appreciate your feedback. You can still Archive classes: Navigate to your Class Library, then select the brown Archive button beneath the class. Coupon codes will help us give all our members great discounts and deals on products! We’d love to hear your ideas and suggestions through this form: https://www.craftsyhelp.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=394

There is so much wrong with this new site, most of all the community of people has been replaced by a marketplace feel.

Reply
Cynthia

I agree with this totally. Craftsy always felt like a community–especially at first. Now I feel like a “customer”–which I always was, I suppose…but I’m not inclined to buy more now. Ironic, ain’t it?

Reply
Rochelle @ eSheep Designs

I’m a huge Craftsy supporter but from a technical point of view, It’s never a good idea to roll out something that’s obviously still under construction. As a user of a website, I prefer that your people work out the bugs first. From what I can see, I’m not a huge fan of the ginormous class/pattern icons under my account. I now have to scroll a lot more to see all of the selections.

Reply

Of all the ways you could have gone this was not it. New site looks really old and dated.

Reply
Shelley

I agree with everyone. The site looks dated, is hard to use and looks more like shopping at Walmart than the old, familiar CRAFT hangout. I can’t find anything, I have to scroll past classes and articles I am not interested in and I now spend at least 50% less time on Craftsy. I also preferred the Wish List to Favourites. A lot of things can be favourites – like classes or patterns I already own. Wish List means that I wish to buy it in the future. You have added things no one wants and taken away things that we enjoyed and that worked easily and clearly and made it fun to be on Craftsy. Now it is a chore.

Hi Shelley,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! We know the site will take a little getting used to, and we appreciate your patience. Totally agree with Shelley Oct 4th and others! This site is very old fashioned looking and a complete nightmare to navigate at times. I made a flattering comment in a class I had bought. The tutor responded by sending me an email thanking me and asking if I would make these same comments in a review of the class. Chance would be a fine thing – can’t find where/how to do this! The only thing I can find about reviews is that they may choose not to use them! Even writing this comment proves problematic – I made a number of typo errors but could not just use my mouse to click on them and correct – had to back space (therefore delete) everything after the typo to get back to it! I don’t know what this site was like before the changes but, it must have been bad if it was worse than this!

“Change is inevitable” we always hear. But hopefully it’s always for the best…not sure the “old” problems were addressed. I don’t see anywhere that a friend or family member can view your ‘wishlist’ to purchase for gifts. I get a lot of classes for gifts and with the holidays coming up, I hope this gets ‘fixed’ or at least made simple to find. I agree with the other person who mentioned ‘where’s the gift button’.

Reply
Craftsy

Hi Debra,
Thanks for your feedback! Right now a others can’t view your list of Favorites, but you can alway print out the page or send them specific products that you’d like. We’ll have the gift feature back on the site in the future. Thanks for your patience and flexibility!

Reply

There’s a huge difference between me putting things on a wish list and my aunt going there and picking what she wants to give me and me printing out a page or sending her a list of things I want. The first is like a gift registry while the second sounds like I’m writing a letter to Santa but sending it to my family instead.
If I send people a printed list, how do they know if somebody else has already bought the item? One of the reasons people who are getting married use gift registries is so they don’t end up with six toasters. I don’t want six gifts of three yards of the same fabric or four gifts of five balls of the same yarn.

Reply
MTP

I know you’re in business to make money, but this new view is just too commercial for me. I have a hard time finding what I want, I still can’t organize my patterns the way I like (I get some categories that you decide), and it takes more clicks to get there. It feels like the Toys R Us version of Craftsy. Ugh.

Just don’t like it.

I’ve already left one comment but I just have to say again how disappointing this new format is–it’s horrible. Too many steps to get to what I want to see. I thought today I could at least begin to change my mind, but I can’t and I don’t think I will. The only time I will be going to Craftsy now is to participate in my classes–if I can find them. Too bad–another customer lost! As we sometimes say in the South–‘if it ain’t broke–don’t fix it!’ Goodbye, Craftsy!

Reply

Hi Jennifer,
Don’t worry, you can still upload class projects and see others’ work! When you’re watching your class, simply click the “Projects” button on the top menu. You’ll be taken to a page full of projects created by your fellow classmates. Hope that helps!

Reply

The new site has a nice fresh look. There are two omissions (at least I couldn’t find them) that I have quickly noticed however. I often look for classes new to me by instructor. I couldn’t find the list of instructors to find their classes. I was very disappointed that you eliminated the specific information about the fabric contents of the kits. You only list the total yardage of the kit. I often buy the kit for the fabric. I want to know specifically what fabric is in the kit. Is it fat quarters or yardage for example. Also with kits I often change the size or the fabric. I need to know more exactly what I need to do this. So I base my decision to buy based upon my existing fabric to do what I want. I now do not have sufficient information to do this.

So overall the new site is much more a disappointment for me.

The more I look at it the more I find missing. I was just looking at the classes. One item of information that has been very useful to me in deciding which class to purchase has been the materials list. That is now gone. The class description seems briefer and more commercial. In fact some of the classes are referred to as a “Product” in the overview.

Not liking the new format with bigger pictures replacing helpful information

Karen Donaldson Gruber

Yuck. Seriously? You didn’t anticipate this reaction? I see tons of “UNuser friendly issues. But worst of all? Where are my classes I paid for? Page said “not available”. It will help if and when they ARE available to me again, but that’s not helping me in the extremely odd and limited hours I have to work on things.

Reply
Vickie

I would have had to agree with you on this topic, Karen. I spent the last 2 days trying to get my classes, paid or free ones to open up. All I got was ‘Oops, page can not be displayed’. Use the Back button or click on the Home page. Which took me back to where I started and here we go again with Oops, page can not be displayed. Talk about frustration. After a couple of hours I gave up, which is sad when I am like you and have limited hours to work on projects. But the good news is, tonight I finally got the classes to open. Seems they must have got the bugs worked out on that problem. But like other’s on the site, I do miss seeing other people’s finished projects or WIP, where you could comment or get inspiration. Maybe in a couple of days they will have more bugs worked out. Let’s hope for the best.

Brenda R London

I like the new site although there are a few slow glitches, tech issues that I am sure will be smoothed out. One thing that disturbs me though is that you removed negative comments in the class reviews. I reviewed a few classes, gave them a 4 and provided both positive and negative aspects of how I found the material presented. They have been deleted and they were polite, professional evaluations. One class had all reviews deleted with the notation: Be the first to review this class. Shame on you craftsy. Also, I was able to enter this as a reply but could not find the button to leave it as a comment. No new classes for me since I realize I cannot trust the written evaluations since they are censored.

Reply
Craftsy

Hi Brenda,
Thanks for your comment and raising that concern. We’re happy to explain this issue. We work with an outside source that reviews all class reviews to make sure they are not spam and that the review is free of profanities. These reviews can take up to 48 hours, so there may be a delay in posting a review, positive or negative. Thanks for your patience!

You could have given us a notice of the change. I tried to finish watching a class two days ago and could not get it to play. This is after I finally found my class list. This new site needs major work to get it to be easy to navigate through. I love Crafty and this new change is not good.

I want to be happy for you, dear craftsy community, but the original site was great! Why replace it? What are your reasons? Can you explain that to us?

This is in no means better and it is not even debugged yet – many links are broken. As a former programmer/designer that hurts even more to see. The design is not more special and the type is too small. Why would you release a website that is not debugged?

I would loved to see other small changes like: searching on price and the possibility to hide the bought classes when looking at other/new classes.

I hope you have a money-back garantee…

I agree Ann! The old site was great and now it looks like a white page with tiny icons. The print is too small and the easy feel is gone. It looks like the screen on a first generation apple computer with lots of tiny icons on the page . I don’t buy new classes anymore, and I see here I’m not the only one.

We’ve been waiting for craftsy to bring back what was good, but all I see here are excuses. Craftsy – Please make improvements that make the site look like it did before so people can see what they are looking for and find what they want. i think a lot of people would buy classes again if you’d just pay attention to what they are saying.

So s-l-o-w! Very discouraging. May I suggest one improvement: make it possible to return to the same page/location you left when you clicked through to look at the details of a pattern. “Return” takes you all the way back to page one. In addition, the option to go on to the next page occurs only at the bottom of the page, so you have to wait for all the pictures to load (slowly) before you can get to where you want to be. (This comment is based on reviewing my Favorites, so I do not know how it works in the Shopping section.).

I have to agree with the consensus. I find the new site a bit more cumbersome. The website and pages take MUCH longer to load and I don’t like the new look of the “my account” page. The site feels much more clunky now. I wish we had an option to stay with the “old” format which I found to be much more user friendly and loaded far more quickly. I know that Craftsy’s intentions were good but…..

Reply

“We think you’ll like it.” = Well, you thought wrong! A poorly thought out update, untested and too many things not working after the change and too many things removed that people liked about the previous site. Now we have lost the ability to follow our favorite people or designers. You have one of the WORST search engines that I have ever encountered. Craftsy, a company that I had high regard for in the past just took a couple giant steps down in my book.

Wow, people sure love to complain. All I’ve read here and on the Facebook Craftsy group is how much people don’t love the change. Well, people, it’s a change. As a former programmer, I can tell you that rolling out a whole, new design change is going to have a few bugs… think of all the problems every Microsoft update has. This reminds me of every time Facebook changes their design, all anybody does is complain because it’s different.

I, for one, have not had any problems. The only thing I can think of to complain about is the wishlist is grouped in with favorites. I agree that makes no sense. I feel like going through and “unfavoriting” all my “likes” just so they’re not mixed in with my wishlist items.

Other than that, I’m sure the bugs will be worked out soon enough. Good job, Craftsy!

I don’t much mind change..but this one does not work me. Extremely s l o w loading pages…a “help” button that goes nowhere, download buttons that don’t download no matter what browser I try….I am sure that there are many factors that make one either satisfied or dissatisfied, but the old site worked flawlessly, loaded quickly and did what it needed to do.

If I were to say I hate the new site, that would be an understatement. It is difficult to find saved patterns. When I download a new one, I can’t find it to actually download it to my computer. Is it just downloaded to my patterns? I have 59 classes, so I use this site a lot. Horrible update. Nobody likes change, but this is totally bad. A good update might be to put saved patterns into categories, such as tops, pants, dresses, bags, home decor, baby, children’s, clothing, toys, etc. Now that would be a huge improvement! I think this was rolled out before ready. An optional Beta version to work out the bugs and add improvement would have been better.

Wow, so much hate here. Why not take a few breaths before posting something so negative and give it a chance – I’m sure a lot of time, research and thought went into this new concept. Businesses don’t just snap their fingers and make changes like this overnight. Of course there are bugs – it happens! And then they get fixed. I personally think everything looks and feels much cleaner! Still a huge Craftsy fan!

There are little things I don’t like, but it’s only matter of getting used to them or waiting for a fix. There are also little things I really appreciate.

I miss the community, though. Is this temporary, or you really meant to stop us from following people, seeing all the projects someone made and other nice things?

I also noticed that in my projects most comments have been deleted, only the ones with answers have survived. I can’t understand why you made this choice. I really like the idea of “Q&A” about a project, that suggest to write something to the author only if you are really interested in the thing and not just to say “Wow!”. I also really like the description field in the project page, while previously we had to add a comment to give further details or to explain personal choices. But since these kind of (unanswered) comments are now lost, useful information is lost too. Unless people update all their projects with the missing description, and I think a lot of them will not.

Absolutely the worst idea ever to change the site. Now my classes buffer every 4 seconds making it impossible to watch. Considering the number of classes I’ve purchased you people owe me a ton of money. Before my classes loaded beautifully and I could view a whole lesson without one hick up. Not now. I feel the soul has been taken out. Craftsy was a friendly community, with lots of opportunity to share, follow, and feel connected. That has gone. I just don’t spend that much time on Craftsy anymore and miss my inbox. Yes, there are technical problems too, but that’s a matter of time. Bringing the ‘soul’ back is something else and I don’t see this happening. I was not that critical at first, but after exploring the new Craftsy, I do feel disappointed. It looks great but feels more empty.

Reply

Lino,
I totally agree with you. We all signed-up on Craftsy, not only for the great classes, but also for the community. It was a wonderful place for those of us who aren’t able to go physically to a local craft store or gather with like-minded crafters.

In “vamping” the site to attract new business, Craftsy left the scores of dedicated crafters who gave them their initial success. While working on any site, it’s important to expand on what made you great in the first place, not to do away with it (A simple focus group made up of actual customers may have helped with this.).

I hadn’t been on Craftsy for a while, although I purchased a lot of classes. When I went back online I was horrified to see an alien site with no soul. My mom, who was also a fan/customer of Craftsy says she’s done with buying classes here. When she went on the site, she felt that the community seems like it’s been pushed aside and a no-name craft supply store has replaced it. I think the market is now wide open for a new online community of crafters.

Reply
Nunt

Maybe I am just an incompetent user here, but where are Reviews of classes? I cannot find a place to leave a Review in a class I own, nor can I see Reviews in classes I have not purchased yet. This was one of the most important factors in my purchase decisions on classes and I will not be buying any new classes before Reviews are back.

Reply
Nunt

Well, it seems that your new fancy site is full of 3rd party scripts that my Privacy Badger is blocking, because they use tracking and data mining. Reviews were therefore blocked…

Had no problems with your site before.

What a mess, I was looking forward to coming back to Craftsy, but nothing is working, and the constant replies from Craftsy that there are always problems with new sites, and they’re sure we’ll enjoy the new design, and everything will be fixed, is obviously just a ‘copy paste’ reply that is not seriously addressing the concerns people have.
Can’t even upload new profile pics directly, so I’m stuck with the blue Gravatar pic, not good!
I’ll come back in a year and see if everything’s fixed, I doubt it!

I hate the new look site. It is difficult to negotiate and, to me, just looks a bit of a mess. I hate the fact that it has no community feel now. I used to follow members/instructors and would often enrol for new classes after seeing what others had made in them. All that is gone now, along with fresh inspiration, so how will we find out and enrol on new classes? I already find I am not coming here so often and am losing enthusiasm for the whole Craftsy platform!

Reply
Stephany

I personally don’t mind the new Craftsy, and in fact, many of the new features (such as being able to search my class library by craft or instructor) I really appreciate.

However, there have been two issues I’ve been dealing with since October 2. The first is a know issue that is being worked on (iTunes purchases from the Craftsy app). The second was about a third of my classes when opened would show a message that I needed to install Adobe Flash in order to watch them. I went through all the steps (twice) sent to me from customer service to troubleshoot the problem, but none of them resolved the issue.

Yesterday I discovered an answer to the Flash problem, and I’ll share it here in case anyone else is having this issue. Open any class. Click on “Settings” on the upper right hand side of the page. Under “Video Format Preferences,” select “Let Craftsy Decide.” You only have to do it once, and it will apply to all classes.

I absolutely LOVE the new site. It does feel a little less like a community and more like just a crafty website, but it still looks great and is easy to navigate. However, I have always loved “change”. Keep doing what you’re doing!

Reply
Xenia

I used to sell crochet patterns on Craftsy, as well as offer free ones. And what I noticed after the change is that I can’t find my shop by filtering anymore! I go to “more”, then to “crochet”, then I check the appropriate boxes, and among 4-5 pages of search results… there are no patterns from my store. You can say, it’s because my listings are not enough optimized for search. But I know basics of SEO, and give my patterns descriptive titles, use tags, and so on… I can even find my patterns easily with a keyword search. But every time I apply any suitable filter, no more than 6 pages of results usually show up, and I’m not there. Also, there are obviously more patterns and designers in the database than the search shows… Why is this so? Do you show only the most popular patterns?

Reply
Xenia

Now I can see my store in the filtering results. I think it was some temporary bug. Please ignore my earlier post. Thanks.

I also HATE your new site!!!!!! Everything that I loved about share with others and them sharing with me is now gone. I would drink my coffee and go to craftsy every morning, But no more I’m now look for what I first found at craftsy a community of crafters that you could follow and see what they were doing and get ideas .

I’m quite frustrated with the new site, I’ve struggled along with it so far but I’ve just got everything ready to add a new project and cannot find anywhere I’m able to do this.

Maybe its me just being a ‘noodle’ but right now I feel like giving up and trying to find another site.

I used to be on Craftsy everyday; I would learn so much and felt “at home” in the Craftsy community. Since October my usage has dwindled (and of course I’ve used my credit card less). I am really trying to love this new site, but I can’t. I MISS THE CRAFTY FEEL OF CRAFTSY. I went on yesterday and again today and felt so frustrated trying to navigate the site. So frustrated that I decided to Google “I don’t like the new Craftsy site” just to see if I had company and boy I’m happy I have folks who share the same sentiment. My question now is how does Craftsy plan to fix this? Competition is steep from many of your instructors rolling out their own online learning platform at less expensive prices. It’s hard to push a daily client away for almost 5 mths because of a poor website design.

Am I missing something? Are reviews of classes gone? I’m sorry but unless I can read how others enjoyed the class (or didn’t) I’m not buying. Too bad.

Hi Maggie,
Thanks for your comment! We do still have reviews for classes — you can read a bit more about that here: https://www.craftsyhelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/213641017-How-to-Return-a-Class If you see a class without any reviews listed, it’s likely because no students have written a review yet. We do always have our 100% happiness guarantee, so if you do buy a class that you’re not thrilled with, we’re happy to make it right within 30 days of purchase.

I wasn’t on Craftsy much when the new website was getting up and running, so I wasn’t aware of the problems many users had at that time. All I know is I really dislike the “improvements”. In general, it’s just a lot more annoying to navigate, and yes, I’m one of those many people who are spending less time on Craftsy. As a seller, being able to see how many people have “wishlisted” my patterns had helped me in determining how to list future patterns, which may have helped my sales. Doing away with this not only potentially hurts the seller; it likely reduces the chance the person who wishlisted an item will come back at a later date to buy it (or have someone buy it for her or him).
